What the numbers mean

The calculator’s arithmetic is unchanged. These are its actual rules, including the parts that can be easy to misread.

Outflow and money left

Total outflow = all EMI amounts + all other expense amounts + Pending and Overdue bills. Paid bills are excluded. Money left equals salary minus total outflow. If that difference is negative, the interface displays its absolute amount alongside a Deficit label.

Input parsing treats unparseable values as zero and clamps negative salary and expense inputs to zero. Displayed amounts round to whole currency units using Indian digit grouping. Percentages round to the nearest whole number. These display choices can create small apparent differences from calculations using rounded figures.

The budget indicator

The indicator starts at 100 and deducts points using rounded percentages. For total outflow as a share of salary, it deducts 60 points above 90%, 40 above 75%, 22 above 60%, or 10 above 45%. Only the highest applicable deduction in that sequence is used.

It then deducts 18 points if EMIs exceed 50% of salary, otherwise 8 if they exceed 40%. A negative balance deducts another 20 points. The score is constrained to 0–100. Zero salary displays a dash for the score.

The score is a built-in budgeting heuristic. It has not been presented as a validated credit model and does not consider assets, household size, job stability, interest rates, insurance or emergency reserves. Its labels and tips are prompts to review your entries, not personalised recommendations or a prediction of loan eligibility.

The chart and currency selector

The chart includes EMIs, expenses, unpaid bills and positive money left. If spending exceeds salary, there is no savings segment and the slices are shown relative to total plotted outflow. The currency selector changes symbols only; no exchange-rate conversion takes place.

What this tool does not calculate

It does not calculate a loan instalment from principal, interest rate and tenure. It does not estimate interest saved by prepayment, fetch transactions, verify bill payments or include costs you have not entered. Monthly records use the existing 2026 month list.

For the bill-status behaviour in context, see the payment example. If you find a calculation that does not follow these rules, send a reproducible example with fictional numbers.
